There are actually many different types of modeling categories and different types of models. Each modeling category has different requirements. Some modeling categories include:

  • Fashion / Image
  • Commercial / Print
  • Fitness
  • Plus Size
  • Kids
  • Real People

Modeling is open to anyone who may have potential in any one of these categories. For example, someone who is good at projecting or portraying a doctor, a business man or woman, a ballerina, a basketball player, a teen, a mom or any other role could easily fit into the Commercial / Print category, kids who are expressive and playful, clever and can project well should consider entering the Kid category, or anyone who has the talent or ability to play various characters in an incredibly realistic manner could fall under the Real People category.

Q: What photos should I use?

A: You should have at least 5 photos, having more photos is recommended.

Composition:

  • Photo 1: A close-up face shot: portrait where your face fills most of the frame of the photo. Pose naturally without a smile and your hair down.
  • Photo 2: A close-up face shot: portrait where your face fills most of the frame of the photo. Pose naturally with a smile (hands on lap).
  • Photo 3: A half body shot where you are facing one-quarter to the left. Pose naturally without a smile.
  • Photo 4: A half body shot where you are facing one-quarter to the right. Pose naturally with a smile.
  • Photo 5: A full body shot with clothes that can define your body shape. Face forward and pose with a smile. Be sure to maintain a relaxed and natural posture.
Style tips:
  • Light make up or no make up at all
  • A simple hair style
  • Ensure good lighting in your photos
  • No accessories like hats, glasses or anything that will distract from seeing you
  • Be alone in the picture
  • Make sure the photos are not blurry; people will need to be able to see you well.
Techniques:

You can have the pictures shot either indoors (with a flash), or outdoors (natural light is great) but whichever you choose, make sure the photographs are neither overexposed nor too dark. The lighting should be evenly lit to reveal details like bone structure and skin quality. Extreme shadows or highlights can hide features that agencies need to properly evaluate you. Note that shooting in direct (mid-day) sun can be tricky; you can often get the best results by shooting in the morning or late afternoons.

The best background is a white or neutral wall. Otherwise, keep it uncluttered. The eye should be drawn to you, not the puppy in your arms or the girlfriend or boyfriend holding your hand!

The subject (YOU) should fill most of the frame of the photograph. Even for the body shot, have the picture shot as tight as possible; so your head is at the top of the picture, your feet are at the bottom.

Q: How long will it take before an agency through the Fame and Fortune program contacts me?

A: The time it takes for you to get contacted by participating agencies depends on a number of factors, some members get contacted after a few days, others several months after joining. Keep in mind we cannot guarantee that you will get contacted, in the end it is up to the professionals and agencies using Fame and Fortune to decide who they want to contact. But there are many things you can do to improve your chances:

  • Ensure that your stats/measurements are accurate and always updated
  • Always upload or send in updated photos on a regular basis
  • Register with our innovative SMS system to keep yourself updated with the latest within the industry 24 hours a day
  • Visit our website regularly and update yourself through our invaluable information
  • Enroll in one of our modeling courses to develop your modeling skills such as proper projection, acting, working in front of the camera, personality development, etc.

It is important that you provide us with all the necessary information and images needed so that we can properly put together your portfolio. Once your portfolio is finalized, it is inserted in our database of portfolios, which is browsed by the Participating Agencies.

When your portfolio is searched by the Participating Agencies, depending on your profile and on the agents who review your portfolio, it could take as little as a week or up to a couple of months for you to get contacted.

Keep in mind trends and fashion is always changing, so if you don't get contacted at first, an agent could still sign you up later, after having previously rejected you.

New agencies are constantly joining Fame and Fortune and scouting our members. We provide you with a continuous opportunity, not just a one-time shot. You can improve and update your portfolio photos throughout the length of your membership and learn the ropes of the business through our various information sources and development programs.

Q: How does Fame and Fortune help aspiring models get discovered? How do agencies use www.myfameandfortune.com to find new talent?

A: Participating Fame and Fortune modeling agencies log in with a different access level that they access with their own password. Through this access level, they can browse through the Fame and Fortune aspiring model section and view the various portfolios. Our categorized listings make it easier for agencies to find models corresponding to a particular profile they are looking for, saving them time and increasing the chances that our members will be seen and discovered by the right agency.

Our service is designed to put the widest range of established and reputable modeling agencies at the fingertips of our members, and helps match them to the right agencies.

Q: How does modeling work? Why do I need an agency?

A: When clients such as Unilever, Levi’s or Avon need models for their advertising campaign, they contact modeling agencies that provide them with potential candidates that match the style of the campaign.

A modeling agency or agent represents the models. The role of an agent is to get you jobs and help you develop a profile that fits with the advertisers' needs. An agency is like a matchmaker, with advertising clients on the one hand, and models on the other hand.

Fame and Fortune’s role is to help you find the right modeling agency and increase your chances of success to get modeling work. We do this by putting all the major modeling agencies at your fingertips and providing you with information about the business and how it works.

Q: What do agencies see when they see my portfolio?

A: Agencies have access to your pictures and stats but not to your personal contact information. They can contact you through our website and SMS system and if you decide to respond you will provide them with your contact information yourself at that time.

This is meant to preserve our members' privacy. When an agency wants to contact you, you receive an email and SMS alert from Fame and Fortune that you have been contacted by an agency. You then have to check your e-mail to read your message from the agency contact. It is recommended that you check these contact messages as soon as possible so that you don’t let an opportunity pass you by.

PLEASE NOTE: you will never receive an email directly from an agency affiliated to Fame and Fortune unless you have given them your contact info first. Fame and Fortune will always operate to protect your privacy at all times.

All agencies browsing on the Fame and Fortune website will contact you through www.myfameandfortune.com. This is for your security and protection as emails are very easy to fake.
